REQUIEM FOR A REDHEAD

In London, Major Gregory George Athelston Keen, M.I.5, was awaiting the arrival of the plane that was bringing the British agent, Major Karl Alexis Scammell from Berlin. Aware that an illegal traffic in forged papers presented a definite threat to internal security, Keen was counting on Scammell for a clue to crack the racket. But just as the plane was landing, Keen received word that Scammell's body had been found in Berlin, buried under a pile of rubble. Someone else had made the trip for him, however. Who he was, or what he looked like, Keen didn't know. He had only these facts: the man was called "Dumetrius"; three people could describe him; and the life of each one was in danger.

Hank Godowski the jet pilot, was one. He had snapped the killer's photograph. By the time Keen reached him, the pilot had been brutally stabbed in the heart, and his camera was missing. Another was young Peter Ridgeway. The third was the enchanting, titian-haired singer, Hedy Bergner.

To Keen, it seemed beyond the bounds of possibility that Hedy should be involved with Dumetrius. She was warm, graceful, flawless--Keen thought she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. On the other hand, Ridgeway accused Hedy of setting the trap for Godowski's killing. And that provided Keen with one other reason for tracking down the imposter. He had to know whether he was in love with the most wonderful woman in the world--or whether he had been ensnared by a ruthless wanton.

Suspense dominates the story as Keen races after the killer, intent to prove Ridgeway wrong--to smash the truth out of his elusive quarry. Ranging over the city of London, in and out of the underworld, it is written in the tradition of the best adventure fiction, and introduces a powerful, hard-hitting new writer to the field.
