THE DISHONEST MURDERER

A U.S. Senator, a murder--and the Norths are again on the trail

This is the latest in the amazingly successful series of mystery-comedy adventures featuring Jerry and Pam North. It starts off on New Year's Eve with the failure of Senator Bruce Kirkhill, a power in American political life, to appear as expected at the home of his fiancee's father, Vice-Admiral Jonathan Satterbee. Instead he is found later that evening in a cheap neighborhood, wearing shabby clothes, and murdered.

It develops that the Admiral has received an anonymous accusation against Kirkhill, and has naively hired a dubious firm of private investigators to check up on his prospective son-in-law. The Norths are brought into it because the Admiral is about to write his memoirs for Jerry's publishing house, and of course Lt. Bill Weigand, Homicide Squad, is actively on the scene.

The Admiral's apartment is on Park Avenue, and the usual intimate glimpses of New York are included. The point of view throughout alternates between "Freddie" Haven's (Kirkhill's fiancee) and that of Pam North, who follows her usual mixture of intuitive perception with impulsive and dangerous action.
